Learn what goes on behind the scenes at a literary press. What is the slush-pile? How does it work? How long should you wait for a response? Learn what catches an editor’s eye and what can turn her off your story. Once accepted, discover what steps your manuscript goes through to become a published work.
Susan will discuss how to navigate and tailor submissions using research and Duotrope. She will also point out how to get experience and how to network in the publishing industry. In addition, she will be giving you tips on editing your work.
SUSAN PIETERS has a Masters in English Literature, has taught college-level courses on writing in the US and overseas, and is co-editor of Pulp Literature. She has been shortlisted for the SiWC writing contests on several occasions, having won it in 2008 and 2011. She has written productively for six years using the Hour Stories.
