SASE, Submittable, Submishmash. Welcome to the unique language of working with editors and publishers! In this session, you’ll gain understanding of these and other terms you need to know as you submit your work for publication. Join experienced editor of both print and online literary journals and successful published poet of more than 60 individual pieces for a how-to session that will outline the various elements that go into preparing your literary work for submission. Learn when your work is ready to be sent out; how to match your work to particular publications; how to take advantage of connections and networks, as well as what information a cover letter should contain, how to understand and follow submission guidelines, and sure ways to avoid the slush pile.

Jami Macarty is a poet, editor, arts administrator and community advocate. Currently she teaches contemporary poetry at Simon Fraser University and is an Advisory Board member and editor of the online poetry journal, The Maynard. She has published more than 60 individual poems, stories, reviews, etc. in over 40 different markets. Her work appears in such journals as Arc Poetry Magazine, Beloit Poetry Journal, Cimarron Review, Contemporary Verse 2, Descant, Drunken Boat, The Fiddlehead, Grain, Interim, Verse Daily, and Volt.
